Matt Abrahams: Yeah, I’m super-excited for our conversation. Jonah Berger: Thanks so much for having me. Welcome, Jonah, and thanks for being here. I look forward to discussing Jonah’s research, his writings, and his new book, Magic Words. Jonah is now a professor at Wharton, a consultant, speaker, and author of several incredibly educational and fun books, including Contagious: Why Things Catch On, The Catalyst: How to Change Anyone’s Mind, and Invisible Influence: The Hidden Forces that Shape Behavior. He studied with one of our previous guests, Chip Heath. He was an undergrad here and then went on to the GSB to earn his PhD. Jonah is no stranger to Stanford and the GSB. These have stood as top attractions from around the global, many of them dating back in time. The below infographic lists the top man made world wonders from around the world. You can not have a healthy relationship with people who are wearing a mask. Write it on your heart that every day is the best day in the year. We can easily forgive a child who is afraid of the dark the real tragedy of life is when men are afraid of the light. We buy books, we go to gyms, we expend a lot of brain power on trying to hold back time, when we should be celebrating the miracle of being here in this world. The world is full of magic things, patiently waiting for our senses to grow sharper. The more clearly we can focus our attention on the wonders and realities of the universe about us, the less taste we shall have for destruction. The meaning I picked, the one that changed my life: Overcome fear, behold wonder. The invariable mark of wisdom is to see the miraculous in the common. Curiosity has its own reason for existing. The important thing is not to stop questioning. The greatest cruelty is our casual blindness to the despair of others. The difference between what we do and what we are capable of doing would suffice to solve most of the world’s problems. Sometimes I wonder if I’m a character being written, or if I’m writing myself. Music is my connection to what the world doesn’t know about me. It should look like the future you are dreaming. Look closely at the present you are constructing. Look at everything always as though you were seeing it either for the first or last time: Thus is your time on earth filled with glory. Life shrinks or expands in proportion to one’s courage. It is the ultimate luxury to combine passion and contribution. I am so glad I live in a world where there are Octobers. Faith is taking the first step even when you don’t see the whole staircase.
